.
In an alternative universe, there are only four elements. The chemistry of these elements is similar to our chemistry, so we can use these elements t do some equations. The four elements are: Ma - mesanium - molar mass 35.0 g/mol D - degreegen - molar mass 15.0 g/mol Cy-communitygen-molar mass-23.0 g/mol Rr roadrunnerium - molar mass 18.0 g/mol Use this equation for the remaining problems: Cy2Rr MaRr2 CyD + 484 kJ MaD4+ 1. (3pts) Balance the equation in the spaces above. 2. (2pts) Is this reaction exothermic or endothermic? 3. (2pts) What is the molar mass of Cy2Rr (include units)? 4. (3pts) How many moles of MaD4 are required to make 4.8 mol CyD? 5. (4pts) What is the mass percent composition of MaD4? 6. (3pts) How many moles of Cy2Rr are in 37.0 g of Cy2Rr?Explanation / Answer
Ans 1 :
The balanced reaction is given as :
MaD4 + 2Cy2Rr = MaRr2 + 4CyD
2) Since the reaction releases heat which is indicated in the product side , the reaction is exothermic.
3) The molar mass of Cy2Rr will be :
= 2(23.0) + 18.0
= 64 g/mol
4) 1 mole of MaD4 makes 4 moles of CyD
So the number of moles of MaD4 to make 4.8 moles of CyD will be :
= (4.8 x 1) / 4
= 1.2 moles
5) The molar mass of MaD4 = 35.0 + 4(15.0)
= 95.0 g/mol
So Ma = (35.0 / 95.0) x 100 = 36.84 %
D = (60.0 / 95.0 ) x 100 = 63.16 %
6) The molar mass of Cy2Rr = 64 g/mol
So number of moles in 37.0 g will be : 37.0 / 64
= 0.578 moles
