Time Left: 0:22:48 Kandace Hadley: Attempt 2 Question 2 (1 point) A saturated fatty add molecule is 12 carbons in length. What is the maximum number of acetyl CoA molecules produced by repetitive cycles of the B-oxidation cyde Your Answer: Answer Save Question 3 (1 point) A saturated fatty acyl CoA molecule of 24 carbons in length is converted to the maximum number of acetyl CoA moledues. How many net molecules of NADH are produced? (answer with an integer written as a number and not spelled out). Your Answer: a a e e

Explanation / Answer

This goes on for (n/2) - 1 times (n = number of carbons).

That is 12/2 - 1 = 5 times.

Products of each beta oxidation are 1 FADH2, 1 NADH and 1 acetyl CoA.

So we have 5 FADH2, 5 NADH and 5 acetyl CoA plus the 1 acetyl CoA remaining,

so 6 acetyl CoA.

2) One beta oxidation releases 1 NADH molecule. So 24 carbon fatty acid will undergo 11 cycles of beta oxidation to yield 12 acetyl coA and 11 NADH molecules.
