CH3OH + O yields H-CHO + H2O

1.) What is the oxidizing agent in the preceding action? Also, How are aldehydes formed from alcohols?

Explanation / Answer

Cu + O ---> CuO (copper oxide)

this coppet oxide will act oxidising agent it will oxidise the methyl alcohol to formaldehyde

oxidising agent is CuO

this is a oxidation reaction

this will remove the two Hydrogens one is from oxygen attached hydrogen

another is from carbon attached hydrogen
