Question
This has to do with neuroscience! I need a detailed explanation
Your colleagues in Brazil send you an email with some information about the Brazilian mice that they forgot to tell you before you left. In this email they disclose to you that these mice have 1,000 different olfactory receptors, 30 different bitter tasting receptors, a single receptor for sweet tastes and a single receptor for umami tastes.
How do you think the olfactory and gustatory systems in these mice compare in their abilities to detect a variety of different types of chemicals?
Explanation / Answer
Ans- as describedmice have 1,000 different olfactory receptors, 30 different bitter tasting receptors, a single receptor for sweet tastes and a single receptor for umami tastes. So when it will be treated with different chemicals they will produce a specific memory about those chemicals because their taste , smell and colour and texture will be different which will be captured by different receptors of their body and some specific details may be memorised about each chemical so we can say that olfactory and gustatory system in mice have ability to detect a variety of different types of chemicals.
