Question
Ann is wanting to lose weight the healthy way. Her physical data are the following:
Age: 25 years.. Height: 5 feet, 3 inches; Weight: 150 pounds
Activity Level: Sedentary, presently consumes about 2500 Calories/day
1. Calculate her body mass index (BMI) and indicate which zone she falls into (underweight, overweight, obese, etc.).
2. Calculate the number of calories she should be consuming based on her energy needs (BMR and activity level). Remember to change weight from pounds to kilograms. Is she currently meeting or exceeding her caloric needs?
3. If she wanted to lose 1 pound a week how many calories less would she need every day for the week? Provide examples of foods that equate to this number of calories that might be reasonable for Ann to eliminate from her intake.

Explanation / Answer
Ans-1- first conversion of weight from pound to kg
150*0.45= 67.5 Kha
Now convert height from inches to meters
63* 0.025= 1.575 m
Now square of the height
1.565* 1.575= 2.480
Now divide weight from height
67.5÷2.480= 27.21
So the BMI is 27.21 kg/m2
In this case she is overweight.
Ans-2- to normal energy need for a female is 2300 calories as described in this case. But she is consuming 2500 calories per day so she is exceeding her energy needs.
Ans-3- if she wanted to loose one pound per week she should take 200 calories less from current calories uptake.
Fruit salads, a little amount of white rice, a glass of milk and a lot of water is suitable food for weight loose.
