Introduction to Experimental Statistics Lab (Chemistry Lab)
Write one or more paragraphs including all the questions below-data table in the picture below the questions: (show your works)
+ Summary of Main results – present results in Tables
+ Error analysis: - always begin with the statistical analysis of results
- only a very brief discussion needed if % Error and %RSD
- detailed discussion necessary when statistics are poor
- don’t just present a laundry list of all the things that might have gone wrong. Relate any specific error discussed to its impact on experiment
- Precision and Accuracy analysis when appropriate
- List New and/or Unique instruments, procedures, or glassware for this experiment
water delivered:(capped vial+water)-(capped vial) PIPET: capped vial:15.0213g capped vial+water:30.0236g water temp.: 25 degree Celsius water delivered:15.0023g CYLINDER: capped vial:16.0576g capped vial+water:30.2645g water temp.: 25 degree Celsius water delivered:14.2069g BEAKER: capped vial:16.2369g capped vial+water:30.2561g water temp.: 25 degree Celsius water delivered:14.0192g (This experiment one should have a deeper understanding of accuracy and precision. Know how to better formulate a critical analysis of experimental results quantitatively with the use of a statistical tool called standard deviation)
Explanation / Answer
The experiment is about accuracy & precision of measuring the water quantity.
Precision - How close the measure values to each other
Accuracy - How close the measured values to the target
The target is to measure 15 ml water
1) Pippete -
Precision - Water measured using pippete by all the student has lowest standard deviation, among the 3 methods, which menas measured water volueme by all the students very close to each other, which means measurements done by pippete are highly precise. So the precision is very good.
Accuarte - % error is low, which means most of the measurements are very close to the target value of 15 ml. So the measurements done by pippete are highly accuarte.
2) Graduated (?? Not visible in the question) -
Precision(Standards deviation) and accuracy(% error) of the volume measured by graduatted (??) is in between the pippete & beaker
3) Beaker
Precision - Water measured using beaker by all the student has highest standard deviation among the 3 measurements, which menas most of readings are very different from each other. So the precision is very bad.
Accuarte - Most of the measurements are very different than the target value of 15 ml, as compared to other 2 measurements. So its accuracy is poor amoung all the 3 measurements.
Note -
Precision - When your measurement precision is good your experimental output values are always going to be very colse to each other, may not be accurate)
Accuracy - When your measurements are accurate, your experimental output values will be very close to the targget value, may not be precise
Precision & accuracy - When you r measurements are precise and accurate your experimental output values will be always very close to each other(precise) and also very close to the actual target value(accurate).
