Question
Physical chemistry
The initial rate of a given enzyme-substrate reaction was measured at different substrate concentrations in the absence and presence of inhibiters A and B. The concentration of A and B were 5.0 mM and 0.10 mM, respectively. The total enzyme concentration in each case is 10.0 mM. The following regression equations for the Line-Weaver plots were obtained for each case: Uninhibited reaction: Y = 0.0171x + 0.0061 In presence of inhibitor A: Y = 0.0273x + 0.0061 In presence of inhibitor B: Y = 0.0285x + 0.010 Determine: the type of inhibition for each inhibitor(with justification)Explanation / Answer
There are three types of inhibitors: competitive, non competitive and uncompetitive.
Competitive inhibitors have same y-intercept as uninhibited.
Non competitive have same y-intercept.
Uncompetitive have different x and y intercept.
So inhibitor A is competitive.
Inhibitor B is Uncompetitive.
